Science Says That Clickbait Gets People To Read Your Articles

As you probably have noticed, many topics (especially those on technology) have been saturated over the past years.

Being a medium reader myself for the last two years, I noticed two things:

Many people produce low-value articles in bulk for the sake of views.

This means they produce articles where they provide generic information about a subject, they do not go in-depth over it, and most of the time they do not provide any sources (AKA fact-check) about it.

These articles usually come with a clickbait title.

Almost all medium writers know that medium does not like clickbait titles. However, if you have used clickbait titles in the past, you may have noticed from your own experience how they usually produce more views.

What does science say?

In a recent study by Jung et al. in 2022 the researchers examined the use of persuasive instruments in the user interface for journalistic content on social media. In other words, they examined how clickbait was used and what the effect was.
